You Visit
Museum Explorations: Students visit the Museum from 10:00am to approx. 12:30pm. During this time, students will work through a hands-on activity with a Museum Educator in our Tech Lab and explore our gallery exhibits. Students also have the opportunity to enjoy a bonus excursion to the Los Alamos History Museum. Groups of more than 60 students will need to visit over multiple days. Requires chaperones assigned to small groups of students for the duration of your visit. Grades K-8th: One chaperone for every 6 students. Grades 9th-12th: One chaperone for every 10 students.
Step 1: Choose your theme
- Engineering: Students are introduced to the field of engineering and presented with a themed hands-on challenge using limited materials. Engineering activities include penny bridges (grades K-2nd), card towers (2nd-6th), paper airplanes (4th-8th), windmills (4th-8th), loudspeakers (9th-12th) and earthquake-proof straw structures (4th-12th).
- Manhattan Project: Students are immersed into a past world of analog radio, Morse Code, encrypted messages, and espionage as they experience communications and encryption technology common during the Manhattan Project. Recommended for 7th–12th grade.
- Building Immunity: Students take on the roles of virus, cell, and immune system to understand the mechanics of a viral infection and the immune response that follows. Recommended for 7th–12th grade.
